IGCSE Study Tip #2: Master the Exam 'Command Words'
2. Master the Exam "Command Words"
Why it matters: IGCSE mark schemes are notoriously specific. Misinterpreting the key verb in a question can cost you easy marks.
Action Plan:
- State / Name: Give a direct answer without explanation.
- Describe: State what happens step-by-step.
- Explain: State why or how something happens using logical reasoning or "because".
- Evaluate: Discuss both pros and cons before reaching a justified conclusion.
IGCSE Study Tip #1: Decode the Official Syllabus (Specification)
1. Decode the Official Syllabus (Specification)
Why it matters: Everything in your exam is strictly bound by the official exam board syllabus (e.g., Cambridge CAIE or Edexcel).
Action Plan:
- Download the official syllabus document for each subject.
- Treat the "Learning Objectives" list as your master revision checklist. If a concept isn't listed, it won't be tested.
- Highlight topics using a traffic light system: Green (Confident), Yellow (Needs Review), and Red (Need Help).
